The risk register below for taxiway renovations identifies the “Runway 32L Threshold Displacement” item, which documented that a runway closure was necessary to relocate the specific threshold. Although the airlines and management did not want to close any runways during this project, the McKissack team identified that by closing this one runway for an extended period of time, operations would avoid multiple taxiway configurations and reconfigurations and temporary construction measures. Ultimately, the runway was closed, which resulted in a net project and operational cost savings, with no significant airside disruptions.
