U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters and U.S. Department of Homeland Security Parking Garages

McKissack supported the development of two parking garages serving the U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Headquarters.
The project incorporated sustainable design strategies to reduce environmental impact, including subgrade levels at the east end of the site, native vine screening across approximately 60% of the above-grade vertical surfaces, and a 90,000-square-foot green roof planted with a variety of vegetation and grasses. McKissack’s design team managed and coordinated 11 outside consultants across security, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire and life safety, landscape architecture, building envelope, and elevator disciplines. The team also collaborated with a parking consultant to address traffic circulation, peak load control, pedestrian and vertical circulation, bicycle and commuter van access, security, and wayfinding. In addition, McKissack designed three security screening lobbies within the USCG and DHS parking garages, integrating card readers, turnstiles, cameras, watch desks, bag check areas, and screening equipment to support secure campus access.
