Howard University Tubman Quad Housing
To enhance the quality of the historic university's housing stock and increase student retention, McKissack helped Howard University renovate five 1930s residence halls.
The Howard University residence halls are interconnected and surround a large courtyard. In a developer-led design-build arrangement, McKissack provided architectural design services for the total renovation of all five buildings, which included 1,300 rooms, public spaces and a new courtyard. The crown jewel of the project is a new, McKissack-designed glass entrance that anchors the complex and gives it a more compelling architectural presence. The renovation has increased the number of available modernized rooms that comprise Howard University's housing stock, enhancing the quality of the university's available housing.
