McKissack led a joint venture to provide the City Colleges of Chicago with design and construction of the new Malcolm X College Campus.
The firm oversaw day-to-day construction, providing quality assurance/quality control, field oversight, and scheduling for the overall project. The new Malcolm X College Campus is a state-of-the-art learning facility that accommodates approximately 20,000 students and includes one to two academic buildings, a 1,500-space parking garage, campus landscaping, and exterior treatments. The 530,000 SF site includes sidewalks and street tree planters with semi-permeable or permeable pavers, security, accent lighting, and durable street furniture. Also included are simulation labs or virtual hospital environments, including rooms and corridors designed to simulate a hospital environment, and other spaces in which health science(s) students will work after graduation. The overall project completed in late 2015. The facility opened in January 2016.
