Audi Field DC United Soccer Stadium Conceptual Design
The Mayor of Washington, DC selected McKissack to develop innovative site and conceptual design options for the city’s new DC United soccer stadium at Buzzard Point.
McKissack supported the City by delivering forward‑thinking design concepts for a 25,000–35,000 seat facility that activated the waterfront and helped catalyze redevelopment in an underutilized area of Southwest DC. Located near the Anacostia River and two blocks from Nationals Park, the concept featured an activated stadium base with retail and dining, a fan plaza, and a prominent entry ramp connecting the surrounding neighborhood to the seating bowl. A canted metal and glass roof provided weather protection while preserving an open‑air experience and framing views of Nationals Park, the Capitol, and the river. McKissack’s work helped transform Buzzard Point into a vibrant, transit‑oriented sports and entertainment district, advancing the City’s vision for economic development and delivering Washington, DC’s first professional soccer stadium.
