McKissack managed the development of this landmark stadium, guiding it through the design phase and the 22-month construction period making it the fastest-built stadium at the time. We integrated advanced features, obtained necessary zoning and public approvals, and negotiated a guaranteed maximum price within the city’s budget constraints. Our leadership was recognized with an award from the U.S. Green Building Council National Capital Region for the “best large project”. McKissack’s services encompassed program management, negotiation assistance, scheduling, budgeting, permitting, design reviews, construction inspection, and coordination with residents, businesses, local officials, and MLB representatives to ensure the stadium’s fast-track design/build delivery. We also oversaw significant infrastructure improvements, including relocating existing transportation and utility systems, enhancing street improvements, stormwater systems, sanitary systems, and water utilities, while integrating innovative Low Impact Development techniques into the drainage design. Nationals Park stands as a testament to McKissack’s expertise in navigating mega projects, through the design and construction process, while offering fans an unparalleled experience in an environmentally conscious setting. Nationals Park, located along the Anacostia River in Washington, D.C.’s Navy Yard neighborhood, serves as the home stadium for Major League Baseball’s Washington Nationals. With a seating capacity of 41,000 and spanning over 1 million square feet, it features luxury suites, club-level seating, a restaurant and sports bar, a picnic area, and a family plaza, establishing it as a premier baseball destination.
