Coleman Federal Correctional Institution
McKissack provided construction management support services for the design-build delivery of a 260,000 SF expansion at the Coleman Federal Correctional Institution.
Delivered through a fast-track design and construction process, the project included six two-story housing buildings containing 128 cells and accommodating a total of 768 inmates, along with support facilities, administrative spaces, infrastructure improvements, and a Federal Prison Industries (UNICOR) manufacturing facility.
Developed as a campus-style environment, the expansion was designed to support safe and efficient operations while providing spaces for education, vocational training, work programs, and essential support services. The inclusion of the UNICOR facility creates opportunities for workforce development and skill-building, supporting long-term personal growth and preparedness for successful reentry.
McKissack’s construction management expertise was critical in overcoming the site’s challenging topography and coordinating the accelerated design-build schedule while maintaining quality, cost, and schedule objectives. The firm’s work helped deliver a secure, functional, and well-planned correctional environment that supports staff operations, institutional programming, and rehabilitative services.
