Yazoo Federal Correctional Institution
McKissack provided construction management services during the design and construction of the U.S. Penitentiary (USP) and Federal Prison Camp (FPC) at the Federal Correctional Complex (FCC) in Yazoo City, Mississippi.
Developed as a comprehensive campus environment, the 583,000-SF facility includes housing units, educational and vocational training spaces, medical and mental health services, religious facilities, recreation areas, food service operations, administrative buildings, and supporting infrastructure serving approximately 1,200 individuals.
The project supports the Bureau of Prisons’ mission to provide safe, secure, and professionally managed facilities that promote rehabilitation, personal development, workforce readiness, and successful reintegration opportunities. Through its campus-style design and broad range of support services, the facility provides spaces for education, vocational training, healthcare, counseling, recreation, and other programs that contribute to individual growth and long-term positive outcomes.
McKissack was specifically responsible for quality assurance and quality control inspections of the facility’s electronic security systems, commonly referred to as Division 17 systems. This work helped ensure that critical security, communication, and monitoring systems functioned reliably and effectively, supporting a safe, secure, and well-managed environment for staff, visitors, and facility occupants while maintaining the integrity of daily operations.
