Dallas Memorial Arena Renovation & Reconstruction at the Key Bailey Hutchison Convention Center
As the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center (KBHCC) embarks on a new era of modernization, McKissack is managing the renovation and reconstruction of the Arena.
The historic Dallas Memorial Arena, located in the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, has a seating capacity of approximately 9,816 and covers approximately 21,290 square feet. The Arena has undergone a series of expansions and transformations since its construction in 1957 and is embarking on a new era of modernization. McKissack is managing the renovation and reconstruction of the Arena, which is expected to be completed in 2028. This project will modernize the Arena to NBA standards to host the Dallas Wings, a professional WNBA team, while preserving its historic character. Upgrades include improved seating, lighting, acoustics, accessibility, and modern amenities. The historical, circular Arena, at the center of the convention center, is three hundred feet wide and 105 feet high, engineered with eight hundred tons of steel and 33,000 cubic yards of concrete. McKissack’s upgrades will optimize crowd movement, enhance sound quality, and provide adaptable layouts to cater to diverse event needs. McKissack’s full design and construction management services include architect and CMAR selection, design reviews, bid oversight, and construction supervision. The firm also manages daily operations—tracking schedule, budget, project controls, and risk planning. With a strong focus on quality and community engagement, McKissack is helping transform the Arena into a vibrant symbol of innovation, culture, and economic growth for the City of Dallas.
