Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA)
WMATA renovated a 230,000 SF high-rise to serve as its new headquarters. McKissack delivered interior design, programming, and furniture procurement services for the facility.
McKissack provided the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) with various services, including interior design, space program validation, furniture specifications, and furniture procurement coordination. The renovated facility is part of WMATA's effort to consolidate operations from 10 buildings across D.C., Maryland, and Virginia, relocating approximately 3,400 employees to foster a culture of collaboration, safety, and well-being among the different teams. Our interior design choices reflect WMATA's cultural values of employee empowerment, collaboration, and innovation. The redesigned space includes hospitality amenities, open workstations, collaborative areas, and private rooms, allowing employees to work together, socialize, or focus individually as needed. This design is enhanced by environmental graphics, branding elements, and art installations inspired by the D.C. Metro transportation system, reinforcing the transit authority's culture.
