McKissack provided project management and quality assurance/quality control services for the landmark CityCenterDC project in the heart of downtown
Washington, DC. During the preconstruction phase, the firm conducted design reviews of residential components. The first phase of the new 10-acre city center broke ground in April 2011 and included two office buildings totaling 520,000 SF: two apartment buildings with a total of 458 units, 20% of those units are affordable housing. CityCenterDC also included two condominium buildings with a total of 216 units; 185,000 SF of retail at the base of all six buildings; and a 1 million SF below-grade garage with loading and service areas, central plants, and 1,555 parking spaces. It also features a 29,000 SF park and 20,000 SF central plaza with intricate site work, fountains, and landscaping. The CityCenter Office buildings are registered for LEED Gold Certification, and the master development as a whole is registered for the LEED-ND (Neighborhood Development) Certification. CityCenterDC was a pilot project for LEED for Neighborhood Development, the first national system for neighborhood design, recognizing smart growth, urbanism and green building, and has since been certified LEED ND Gold.
