District of Columbia Housing Authority
McKissack provided construction management and staff augmentation services to assist the District of Columbia Housing Authority (DCHA) with the implementation of the authority’s capital plan of $1.1 billion to upgrade the Authority’s portfolio of 9,300 units in forty-seven buildings, comprising fifteen senior buildings and thirty-two family buildings.
The Ledroit Senior Renovation serves as a prime example of the upgrades DCHA aims to implement across its portfolio. McKissack oversaw the daily construction management and developed a relocation plan for the residents, ensuring minimal disruption to their daily routines during temporary relocation. The renovation is divided into four phases, with the goal of moving residents back to fully renovated units. Currently in Phase 2, the Ledroit Senior Renovation includes elevator renovations, mechanical upgrades, unit renovations, and lead abatement. The next phase will focus on upgrading community spaces, providing areas for residents to gather and receive services such as physical therapy, as well as improvements to laundry services and building security. The final phase will involve renovating the building façade to create a more modern and appealing look. McKissack is actively involved in the design development phase, attending meetings with the community to discuss proposed changes and managing the architect.
